We’re pleased to announce that we are currently hiring for a part-time Communications Officer to join us at our constituency office in Poole. The Communications Officer will work closely with other members of Neil’s team, overseen by the Head of Office, to raise the MP’s profile in the constituency and support wider Parliamentary work.

  • Hours: Part-time (18.75 hours to be worked across the week by agreement)

  • Length of contract: Permanent (subject to a six month probation period)

  • Salary: £13,500 (FTE £27,000)

The duties of the Communications Officer will include:

  • Establishing, monitoring, and updating an online presence in the constituency, including maintaining our website and social media pages (this will include using Squarespace, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn).

  • Producing online graphics and video content, as well as publicising events and news alerts etc. (This will include using Canva, Buffer, and Kapwing).

  • Monitoring media coverage, preparing press releases, (on constituency, non-party-political matters) and briefing the MP on relevant issues.

  • Engaging professionally and confidentially with members of the press.

  • Following up on social media queries and comments.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • The ability to draft clear and professional media output, including press releases and social media/website maintenance

  • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with members of the press

  • Attention to detail, high level of accuracy, creativity, and organisation in producing media content.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

Please note:

  • A full UK driver’s license and regular access to a car is required, as some travel may be required (reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed).

  • A commitment to the aims and values of the Labour movement is desirable.

  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours.

  • Upon appointment, the role holder will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office.   • The salary is in line with guidelines provided by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
