Public Ownership of Our Railways – Putting Passengers First

I joined campaigners outside Parliament for a Tug of War action calling on the Government to put passengers above big money lobbyists and private rail firms.

Labour has promised to take our railways back into public ownership - most people would expect that to include the trains we travel on.

The Conservative privatisation disaster has left families facing endless fare rises and the "rolling stock" companies who own the trains have pocketed hundreds of millions in profits. New research shows fares could have been 12.6% lower if money paid out in dividends had instead been reinvested into the railway.

The Railways Bill represents a major opportunity to put passengers first but it cannot be done with half measures. The rolling stock companies are the elephant in the room of rail reform.

I have worked with We Own It on a plan to bring these companies into public hands - so all our railways belong to YOU!
